Roger Yates became a vegan in 1979 for ethical reasons. For most of his adult life, he’s been involved in various volunteer roles in the grassroots of the animal advocacy movement. In the late 1980's he served 4 years in prison for his press liaison work for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). An occasional lecturer in sociology at UCD, he has taught social theory, critical theory, sociology of humour, and various social movements and protest modules. His MA focused on the British animal advocacy movement, and his PhD was a study of the three pillars of the ideology of speciesism: theology, philosophy, and everyday social practice. He is currently an organizing volunteer for Dublin-based Vegan Information Project (VIP).
